The Londonderry Volunteer
Rescue Squad (LVRS) is
an independent first response ambulance service and rescue squad.
Licensed as an Advanced Life Support service, LVRS offers basic
and advanced life support, as well as rescue services such as
vehicle extrication, back-country rescue (i.e., hikers and
snowmobilers), high- and low-angle rescues, and water rescue in
all or part of nine towns in a 255-square mile coverage area.
Residents and visitors to the towns
of Londonderry, South Londonderry, Landgrove, Weston, Peru,
Winhall, Windham, Stratton and Jamaica are transported to
Springfield Hospital, Rutland Regional Medical Center, Southern
Vermont Medical Center (Bennington), Grace Cottage Hospital
(Townsend), Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, and under some
circumstances to Mountain Valley Medical Center in Londonderry and
Northshire Medical Center in Manchester.
LVRS’ vehicle purchases and
maintenance, volunteer training and other operating expenses are
supported by generous community donations, occasional grant
support and an annual fundraising raffle. Incorporated in 1963,
LVRS continues to be one of the last remaining all-volunteer
ambulance services and rescue departments in the state. Our
patients are assisted and transported free of charge to the area
hospital of their choosing.
